"Yeah, but it takes some moral fiber just to be loyal. Better to be loyal to someone or something and do that sort of thing than to be disloyal and totally detached and do that sort of thing."

"I tried to kill the prime Merlinean. Several times. And I was part of a plot that would have killed a bunch of people. It's not much to work with."

"But it's something." Wally shrugged. He was confident that he could help this goth punk kid redeem himself.

"Yeah." Drake finished drinking his bloody Mary, before asking, "Anything else you wanted to talk about?"

"We're supposed to be male bonding or something." He took another swig of his own beer, still not quite finished yet.

"What did you want to talk about?"

Wally had to stifle a laugh. "Okay, that's fair. Tell me about yourself, Drake."

"I'm a world famous magician...back in my world. Best show anyone's ever seen, for obvious reasons. I've got things in my act that no one's ever seen before, big cats coming out of other big cat's mouths, me pulling myself out of a hat, stuff like that. Mostly illusions, of course."

He couldn't really judge. He used his own powers for show-business sometimes, although he was honest about it.

"Fair enough."

"Speaking of which, I usually use animals in my shows. Big cats a lot of the time, but other things also. Don't think I'm going to get a panther or leopard, and probably wouldn't have anywhere to keep it, but I was thinking...maybe I could get something like some kind of white parrot? Maybe one of those sulphur crested cockatoos?" He could do some with illusions, but he usually used the real trained animals due to limits in his abilities to maintain illusions, even at full power.

He nodded. He wasn't terribly surprised. He'd like the bird, of course, but he was getting the ring back, so he didn't want to push it too hard.

"I don't have a shot at just getting to do my magic show for the other inmates, do I?" he asked. "What kind of work?"

"Not a chance. There's an opening in maintenance, the spa, and here at the pub. Your choice."

"Ooh! I'll take the spa!" That one sounded like the most fun.

Wally tried once again not to laugh. He had an 'evil' peacock for an inmate.

"Sure thing. I'll sign you up."

"All right." This was great! It meant he could get into the spa whenever he wanted. Yeah, he'd have to work, too, but he'd know what he was doing at the very least.
