I know that time works differently on the barge, but it's hard to get comfortable knowing that trouble's waiting back home. I never really appreciated before how hard some of the wardens here work, knowing that lives are at stake. It's so weird not being able to call Linda and ask how the kids are doing. I know how they're doing, but it's not the same.

How do you guys do it? Sit around all day, reading or going about your business, knowing that while you're stuck here trying to do a long job, the people you care about are dead or dying all the time?

I suppose it helps that there is no one I care about "dead or dying" and there is no "back home".

That would make the stay easier, yeah. I guess that would mark you off the list, though.

So the point was to what, rub it in my face that my family is dying and yours isn't?

You asked a question and I answered.

If you are truly concerned about your family, go home. Your blatant attempt at antagonism doesn't interest me.

I asked a question to the people who work knowing lives are at stake. That sort of rules you out.

Lives are at stake here. Focus or leave.

Who's life is at stake? Right this second, who is dying that I'm not focusing on? And where do you get off telling me that I'm not allowed to worry about my kids?

I am telling you your priorities are questionable if you're here, worrying about your children.

If they are in danger and that danger does not directly relate to your deal with the Admiral, you should not be here.

If it is your deal, do the task you were assigned and focus on your inmate.

Coming from someone who doesn't know what it's like to be here fighting for the life of someone you care about, that advice doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Don't you dare presume to know why I'm here or what I'm fighting for.

And don't you dare presume to tell me how to feel about my family. I never asked you in the first place.

Did you leave your reading comprehension skills behind with your children?

No, I think I left it in the same place you left your tact.

My lack of tact was never in question. However, giving credence to your apparent inability to process even the simplest information, allow me to explain this as succinctly as possible:

While you are here, your inmate is your highest priority. If you are unable to give them the time, effort, and consideration they deserve, you should recuse yourself and go home.

I don't care what you say about me, but my kids are my priority. Since I never asked for your opinion in the first place and you obviously don't understand the situation, I have to ask you to shut your mouth and go bother someone else.

And to avoid repeating myself, I refer you to all previous responses regarding your children and recommend the use of a dictionary for the really difficult words.
